No Chance to New Chance: Journey Home Rescue Alliance

If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to save dozens of dogs a week from dire situations, look no further than Danielle Zulauf Zuck. Founder and driving force of Journey Home Rescue Alliance, Danielle is the kind of person who looks at an overwhelmed rural shelter and doesn’t say, “That’s too big.” Nope, she says, “Let’s fix this.”
Fueled by fierce compassion (and probably an endless supply of coffee), Danielle built this all-volunteer rescue from the ground up—connecting dogs in need with foster homes, vet care, and loving families. Her mission? To make sure no dog’s journey ends too soon. With Danielle at the helm, “rescue” isn’t just a word — it’s a full-on movement.
Journey Home Rescue Alliance: Turning “No Chance” into “New Chance”
If there’s one thing Journey Home Rescue Alliance knows how to do, it’s turn a “sorry, there’s nothing we can do” into “we’ll be there in an hour!"
Based in Wando, SC, this scrappy, all-volunteer team spends their days (and let’s be honest, nights) pulling dogs from underfunded, overcrowded rural shelters and getting them to safety. And not just a couple here and there—we’re talking 40+ dogs a week. Forty. Every week. Without a payroll, without a big corporate budget—just grit, good hearts, and a network of fosters, drivers, and rescuers who refuse to quit.
The Game Plan
Here’s how it works:
-
Find the dogs in trouble. (Spoiler: they’re everywhere.)
-
Arrange transport. Sometimes it’s a quick car ride, sometimes they hitch a flight with Pilots N Paws.
-
Get them into foster homes. No scary kennels—these dogs get a couch, a food bowl, and someone to tell them they’re a “good boy” about 27 times a day.
-
Handle the vet work. Vaccines, microchips, spay/neuter, the works.
-
Match them with their forever humans. Cue the happy tears.
Why They Stand Out
Most rescues save dogs. Journey Home also saves hope—for the dogs, for the people who love them, and for the communities they serve. They bridge the gap between “we don’t have the resources” and “we can make this happen.” And they do it over and over again.
How to Help
-
Adopt or foster – Be someone’s happy ending.
-
Donate – Vet bills and transport aren’t free, and they stretch every dollar further than a Great Dane’s legs.
-
Spread the word – Share their posts, tell your friends, shout it from your porch.
Journey Home Rescue Alliance is proof that even when the system is broken, determination, teamwork, and a little bit of dog hair on your clothes can make a huge difference.
Because at the end of the day, every single one of those forty dogs a week gets to trade “the end” for “the beginning.”
Meet a few brave pups who were out of time—and just beat the clock for a fresh start!
Sandy, Bunny, Missy, Sally, Hulu, Maggie, Cheese and Honeybee are still waiting!
